Episode 4: Performing Race In America: an Ego Po forum!

Since igniting a national debate with their adaptation of Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe, Ego Po held a forum at Plays and Players Theater on the subject of Performing Race in America. Panelist Dr. Ania Loomba [UPenn Catherine Bryson Chair of the English Department], Dr. Camille Charles [Head of Africana Studies and Professor of Sociology at UPenn], Lane Savadove [Ego Po Artistic Director], Paule Turner [Choreographer/Actor] and Ed Swidey [Actor] discussed openly with audience members and guests on the topics of “race” and “racism” in Ego Po’s reversed cast portrayal of Uncle Tom’s Cabin and the world at large. Challenging terminology such as “post racial society” and “color blind casting”, the panel and audience charge the flood gates for a much deeper discussion. Out & About gets the inside scoop!!!
